Amazonia
The Amazon Rainforest, often called the Amazon Jungle or Amazonia, is the largest forest on our planet. It accounts for more than half of the world's remaining rainforests and contains around 390 billion trees belonging to approximately 16,000 species

The Amazon River
This remarkable ecosystem serves as a sanctuary for an astonishing variety of life. It is home to approximately 2.5 million species of insects, 40,000 types of plants, 2,200 species of fish, 1,294 species of birds, 427 species of mammals, 428 species of amphibians, and 378 species of reptiles

Amazonian Tribes
The indigenous peoples of the Amazon Rainforest have a rich heritage that has been nurtured over countless generations. Many of these tribes continue to live in harmony with their environment, drawing upon the Rainforest for essential resources such as food, shelter, medicine, and spiritual wisdom. Although each tribe has its unique customs and practices, they often share similar approaches to survival, cultural expression, and their deep connection to nature. It is estimated that there are more than 400 distinct indigenous tribes in the Amazon, collectively comprising around 1 million individuals. Among the most well-known tribes, recognized for their extensive knowledge of medicinal plants, are the Yanomami, Kayapo, Ashaninka, Matses, Marubo, Munduruku, and Korubo. These tribes, along with many others, are vital to the preservation of both the cultural and environmental legacy of the Amazon Rainforest

Jungle Life
Life in the jungle poses serious dangers for Amazonian tribespeople that cannot be overlooked. They navigate a tough natural landscape filled with perilous wildlife, facing threats from predators, venomous creatures, and illnesses or infections from injuries, which are constant concerns. Their isolation means there are no nearby medical facilities, making their reliance on natural resources even more critical. To thrive in such an environment, they must possess extensive knowledge of hunting, fishing, foraging, and the use of medicinal plants

Medicinal Plants
The Amazon Rainforest is often called the "world's largest natural pharmacy" due to its incredible biodiversity and rich variety of medicinal plants

There are over 40,000 plant species in the Amazon.
25% of Western medicines are derived from these plants.

3,000 medicinal plants are traditionally used to prevent and cure health issues, but also to give strength.
The vast potential of these plants is still largely unexplored by the modern world, as only 2% of species have undergone scientific investigation.

There are over 3,000 different types of fruits in the Amazon, yet only 15% is consumed beyond the region.
